Located in the small village of Lockton, amongst the rolling North Yorkshire Moorland and babbling beck, Lockton Tea Rooms and Gallery sits proudly on the crossroads of the village.

A cosy little spot, quaintly housed in a gorgeous local stone building offering a whole range of delicious bakes, teas, coffees, cooked breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas. As well as a supper club, with the added benefit of having a licence to serve wine, beer, and spirits of an evening.

Lockton Tea Room also doubles up as a platform for local talented craftmanship and artistry. Showcasing some of the gorgeous handmade delights from the local area including paintings, pottery, textiles, and wood carvings. Giving the tearoom a real sense of promotion for Lockton and the surrounding villages.

The Tea Rooms also offer a monthly supper club, inviting you to select a date – book a table – view the menu – provide your desired menu choice (reduces waste – I love this) before pitching up and enjoying an evening with good company, good home cooked food and the option to accompany it with a splash of something naughty from their licenced alcohol and spirits list.

As if that wasn’t enough, Lockton Tea Rooms and Gallery also offer a self-contained 1 bed (accommodates 2 people) holiday let called “The loft” which sits quaintly within the village of Lockton. Boasting a cosy wood burner, self-contained living space and kitchen, as well as being in easy walking distance of some of the incredible sights the North Yorkshire Moors have to offer including Dalby Forest. Perfect for walking or cycling holidays, allowing easy access to explore the local area, with the added benefit of returning to a clean, and well-appointed holiday let, with the Tea Rooms on your doorstep.

Lockton Tea Rooms and Gallery appears to be a family venture with many of the delightful bakes being created within “mums’ kitchen” giving the delightful homemade cakes a real nostalgic vibe. – And the cakes I must say, look incredible.

We visited Lockton Tea Rooms out of season, which meant that it was a little to cold to enjoy the out-front seating and the beautiful village vista the location has to offer, so we opted for the warmer option of the tearoom indoor seating.

The property is comprised of an entry room, with counter, art work and one large table, before opening up into a larger seating area.

On entering we were warmly greeted by a member of staff, the tearoom was certainly packed with visitors from couples to families, including their 4-legged friends, so we were fortunate enough to have arrived as a couple were vacating. Leaving us with the nice round table at the front of the shop, nestled amongst the artwork, and adjacent to the front door and counter.

We were kindly met with the upfront honesty that due to having been flooded with customers in a very short space of time, there was about a 30- 40-minute delay on food. I appreciated the upfront honesty, and we did not have anywhere else to be, so we were happy to sit, drink coffee and spend time looking at the arts and crafts. Although it would be worth noting this if you are planning on attending at busy times should you have small ones or are on a bit of a time constraint.

We were provided with the colourful menus containing their breakfast options, from warm sandwiches to granola and yogurt for the healthier minded individuals (prices ranging from £2.50 - £7.50). And another with the lunch options and drinks with delightful homemade options to choose from including quiche of the day, and a Falafel Mezze. (Prices range from £6 - £9.50) Barrister drinks made at the counter provide a selection of coffee and chocolate options, along with loose herbal teas and of course Yorkshire Tea (Naturally), alternative milks were also available. (Prices range from £2.20 - £3.30)

With it being mid-morning, we opted for a sausage and bacon sandwich on malted brown (£6.50) along with a latte (£3.20) and a black americano (£2.20)

Whilst waiting for our food, we took pleasure in perusing the local handcrafted pieces, neatly displayed next to us. With some beautiful pieces of hand made ceramic and pottery crafted into candle holders, organic display pieces, plant pots, mugs, plates, and some intricate mechanical figures made from nut and bolts. There were also some rather warm looking knitted hats and scarfs. Prices were not cheap, however considering the time and talent to create these gorgeous pieces, I would consider then reasonably priced and a piece to treasure.

As promised the food arrived within the 30-40 minute advised time, and we were ready to munch down on our sandwiches. Due to the busy nature of the tearoom, we did have to request to order another drink, rather than being asked however it arrived quickly and well presented with another black americano and a pot of Yorkshire tea, with a little milk bottle on the side (£2.60).

The sandwiches were served on fresh malted brown bread, with medium size slices. Filled with 2 fat butchers pork sausages and thickly sliced butchers’ bacon. (all sourced locally) There was a selection of condiments brought out, along with cutlery and paper napkins.

The coffee was good quality, and the tea leaves a welcome infusion providing a stronger flavour than the tea bag.

The cakes on offer looked amazing, ranging from sandwich cakes to tray bakes. A reasonable portion size and also offered up gluten free and vegan options too. All well presented to you on arrival at the counter – delicious.

Would I visit again?

Lockton Tearoom and Gallery is a well-appointed tea shop set amongst a beautiful back drop of Moorland village, serving delicious hot and cold food. Although the Menu is not expansive, it certainly provides an all-round service to any walker, cyclist or visitor, Whether your delight be savoury or sweet.

You can rest assured that you will be warmly welcomed by the staff and can sit back and enjoy the warmth of a good brew or tipple of your choice with some delightful home-made food. I would certainly recommend Lockton Tea rooms and Gallery to anyone who is heading that way, but I would highly recommend booking ahead is possible, and bring your credit card for some delightful craft purchases.
